    American Honda Racing’s Trey Canard earned his first career Supercross victory on Saturday night with a hard-fought performance in front of 45,859 fans at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

    While he’s been on top of the podium before in the Lites class, this is Canard’s first 450-class victory.  He’s had a successful rookie-season to date and Canard came into the race knowing he still had a lot to prove. For him, finishing on the podium wasn’t enough. He wanted to secure that elusive first Supercross win.  In the finals, he proved he can race with the best.

    Standing ovations, nostalgic remembrances and emotional acceptance speeches filled the World Arena during the 11th Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony Wednesday night.

     

    A sold-out crowd of 700 attended the induction ceremony and dinner at the World Arena as the Class of 2010 was welcomed into the fold. Major League Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Goose Gossage, former U.S. Olympic Committee Executive Director Jim Scherr and U.S. Olympic figure skater Rachael Flatt attended the event, which was co-presented by The Gazette.

  • FIFA Reps Begin Tour of Facilities Included in U.S. World Cup Bid

    September 07, 2010

    The five-member FIFA Inspection Delegation began its tour of American soccer facilities today as part of the U.S.’ bid process to host either the '18 or '22 World Cups. The group, led by Chilean Football Federation President Harold Mayne-Nicholls, will visit major stadiums and training sites and meet with city leaders in five of the 18 candidate host cities: N.Y., DC, Miami, Dallas and Houston. “This is very much a technical inspection tour,” Mayne-Nicholls told reporters at the St. Regis hotel inManhattan. He added the group would also examine each city's transportation and telecommunication infrastructure.

    Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said he remained upbeat about preparations for the 2012 Games despite Britain’s economic woes, which have prompted proposals for deep budget cuts by its government.
